Friends often turn to lovers and Bollywood and popular sitcoms have often shown that to us over the years. While love is often associated with romantic relationships directly, films and television series have shown us there is more to love than just that spark.
Every year, International Friendship Day is observed on July 31 around the world, and it is no different in India, where the tradition of tying friendship bands has been revered among teens and adults, but also among crushes to showcase their romantic interest, which often starts with friendship.
In a recent survey by dating app happn, respondents chose iconic duos that found love when the timing was finally right. When asked which friends-to-lovers story from pop culture felt the most real, they revealed a Bollywood duo that has been an eternal favourite, which took the top spot. While Rahul and Anjali from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was at 32 per cent, Bunny and Naina from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani came second at 29 per cent, followed by Monica and Chandler from Friends at 19 per cent.
While Bollywood clearly beat Hollywood in this case, cinema has for long showcased friendships in the best ways, and Shah Rukh Khan – Kajol clearly beat Ranbir Kapoor – Deepika Padukone and Courtney Cox – Matthew Perry for the coveted top position.
