After reports of 14 children’s deaths in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan – allegedly linked to contaminated cough syrups – the Centre has launched inspections at 19 drug manufacturing units across six states.
A pharma company in Tamil Nadu is under scrutiny, while Rajasthan-based Kayson Pharma has been banned following the tragedy. NDTV had earlier flagged serious irregularities and a possible cover-up in Rajasthan.
In Tamil Nadu, samples of the cough syrup were found to contain harmful chemicals, including dangerously high levels of Diethylene Glycol, a substance the World Health Organization had issued a warning against in 2023.
The Kerala government has also suspended the sale of the syrups, which have been identified as ‘Coldrif’ and ‘Nextros DS’. NDTV is on the ground, tracking this developing story and bringing you the latest updates.
