A political controversy has erupted over BJP leader K Annamalai’s remarks during campaigning in Mumbai’s Dharavi and other Tamil-populated areas, where he described Mumbai as a “global capital” rather than Maharashtra’s capital. The comment drew sharp criticism from MNS chief Raj Thackeray, who accused Annamalai of questioning Mumbai’s identity. The BJP, including Maharashtra leaders, issued clarifications, claiming Annamalai’s statement was misinterpreted. Responding to alleged threats from Thackeray’s camp, Annamalai hit back, accusing the Thackerays of intimidation and openly challenged them, asserting that he will enter Mumbai despite the warnings.
