Moscow struggled with extreme snowfall for a third consecutive day on Thursday, with snow depth reaching 62 centimeters (42 inches)—almost three times the seasonal norm. Traffic congestion has reached peak levels, prompting city authorities to urge drivers to use public transportation or, if possible, stay late at work to avoid rush hour. Despite the disruption, many Muscovites say they are enjoying the weather, describing it as a real Russian winter. Utility services are working around the clock to clear the snow. In some districts, entire streets have been closed to store the cleared snow, with snow piles reaching up to four meters high. According to meteorologists, this has been the snowiest January in Moscow in the past 203 years.
