UK Cabinet ministers have backed PM Keir Starmer after a senior Labour figure called on him to resign over the fallout from the Epstein–Mandelson affair. Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar said Starmer’s handling of the appointment of Peter Mandelson as UK ambassador to the United States was not good enough. He followed this up with renewed scrutiny of Mandelson’s past links to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. As Sarwar spoke, senior cabinet ministers publicly voiced support for Starmer. The prime minister later addressed Labour MPs at Westminster, telling them he would not step down and would continue to lead the government.
