Explained: How A Lok Sabha Speaker Can Be Removed From Office

Opposition parties on Tuesday submitted a notice to move a resolution seeking the removal of Om Birla as Lok Sabha Speaker, alleging that he had acted in a “blatantly partisan” manner in conducting the business of the House and “abused” the constitutional office he occupies. The Opposition has accused him of favouring the ruling side and not allowing its members to speak during the Budget Session.
