Cleanup operations are underway in Beirut after Israeli airstrikes destroyed and damaged dozens of buildings in the Lebanese capital’s southern suburbs. Excavators were seen clearing rubble as residents began assessing the damage. The strikes come amid escalating tensions between Israel and the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah following rocket fire into Israel. According to reports, Israeli attacks have killed 826 people in Lebanon since fighting resumed on March 2, including dozens of women and children. The conflict has also displaced more than 800,000 people across the country, humanitarian groups warn, with the Norwegian Refugee Council saying nearly one in seven Lebanese has been forced from their homes.
