WhatsApp May Soon Let AI Summarise Multiple Chats For You. But What About Privacy?

After introducing several AI-powered tools in recent months, WhatsApp is now working on another update that could make message management even easier. Building on its recent “Message Summaries” feature, which allows users to summarise unread chats one at a time, the platform is now developing a tool called “Quick Recap.”

This upcoming addition aims to let users catch up on multiple unread conversations in one go, without having to open each chat individually.

<span style=”color: #ba372a;”>What Is WhatsApp’s ‘Quick Recap’ Tool?

The new tool was spotted in beta version 2.25.21.12 for Android, as per WABetaInfo, a reliable tracker of WhatsApp developments. Though still in early testing and not widely available, the ‘Quick Recap’ feature could offer a more efficient way for users to stay on top of unread messages.

Unlike the existing Message Summaries feature, which is limited to one chat, Quick Recap will reportedly let users select up to five chats. From there, users can tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner of the screen to generate a concise summary of messages in those selected conversations.

<span style=”color: #ba372a;”>Privacy Still a Priority

WhatsApp is incorporating Meta’s “Private Processing” technology to power this new feature. This ensures that neither the original messages nor their summaries can be accessed by Meta, WhatsApp, or any third party.

Importantly, chats that are protected under the platform’s ‘Advanced Chat Privacy’ settings won’t be compatible with Quick Recap. The feature also won’t be enabled by default; users will have to switch it on manually via their app settings, giving them full control over its use.

<span style=”color: #ba372a;”>What’s Next?

Although the feature isn’t functional yet and remains under development, it is expected to become available to more beta testers gradually. A wider, stable rollout may follow in the coming weeks.

Quick Recap adds to WhatsApp’s growing line-up of AI-driven features aimed at improving user experience and convenience.
