From Celebration To Catastrophe: How A Vijay Rally Turned Deadly In Karur

What began as a celebratory moment after actor Thalapathy Vijay’s entry into politics turned into a tragic catastrophe. During TVK’s 38-district tour in Tamil Nadu, massive crowds gathered for Vijay’s ‘Meet the People’ rally in Karur on September 27. With Vijay arriving over six hours late, crowd pressure intensified. A microphone failure triggered the first surge as supporters moved closer, followed by a deadly crush when Vijay’s bus began to leave. The chaos resulted in one of the deadliest stampedes of 2025, claiming 41 innocent lives. Questions are now being raised over crowd management, security planning, and administrative preparedness.
