Bollywood Posters Shaped Art Culture In Ghana: Contemporary Artist Ibrahim Mahama At NDTV Masterstroke Awards 2026

Internationally acclaimed contemporary artist Ibrahim Mahama shared a global perspective on India’s vibrant art scene, praising its deep legacy and growing influence on the world stage.

Speaking at the NDTV Art Awards, Mahama recalled how India had shaped his own artistic imagination while growing up in Ghana, where Bollywood film posters and street paintings left a lasting cultural impact. He highlighted the historical and emotional connections between India and Ghana, calling the artistic exchange between the two countries both natural and inspiring.

Having worked closely with Indian artists at the Kochi Biennale, Mahama said he was impressed by the creativity and ambition of India’s younger generation. He described being part of the awards jury as an honour, noting how difficult it was to choose winners in such a rich and diverse field.

He particularly applauded NDTV for recognising not just artists but the entire ecosystem, including curators, writers and patrons who help sustain art. His message underscored the evening’s theme, that India’s art world is dynamic, inclusive and increasingly significant on the global cultural map.
