The Bangladesh Nationalist Party, or BNP, has emerged victorious in the general elections held on Thursday, heralding the end of 18 months of interim rule under a caretaker government. This is the first national vote since the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government following mass student-led protests in August 2024. BNP chairman, and son of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, Tarique Rahman, is set to become Bangladesh’s next Prime Minister.
