AI Tools | More Indian Kids Using Gen AI Tools, But Most Don’t Understand It: Survey

A new EdTech 2025 survey by Central Square Foundation reveals that while generative AI adoption among children in India is rising rapidly, understanding of the technology remains limited. The study found that 35% of children using edtech platforms are now using generative AI tools for learning. However, nearly three-fourths of AI-aware children mistakenly believe these tools function like simple internet search engines. Conducted between July 2025 and January 2026 across 12,500 households and 22,500 teachers in 10 states, the survey highlights a widening gap between usage and comprehension. Children are primarily using generative AI for school-related activities – 73% for doubt-solving and practice, 48% for learning new skills or translation, and 32% for exam preparation – raising important questions about AI literacy and responsible use in education.
