Mumbai Pollution | After Delhi, Mumbai Chokes: AQI in ‘Unhealthy’ Zone for a Week

After severe air pollution in Delhi, deteriorating air quality has now gripped Mumbai, with the city’s average AQI remaining in the “unhealthy” category over the past week. In response, the Government of Maharashtra has ordered a halt to construction activity across the state, issuing notices to over 1,000 sites for alleged environmental norm violations. Actor and endurance runner Saiyami Kher has raised concerns about the worsening air quality, saying she now wears a mask even during her morning runs. She described clean air as a “luxury” and said runners and cyclists across the city are experiencing persistent coughs and respiratory discomfort. Kher added that doctors have advised many to avoid outdoor exercise, calling for greater accountability and urgent action to address the crisis.
