Iran Ship Attack | “First Torpedo Sinking Since World War II”: US Sinks Iranian Vessel

The United States has confirmed that an American submarine torpedoed and sank the Iranian warship IRIS Dena off the southern coast of Sri Lanka. The vessel was reportedly returning from the 2026 International Fleet Review in Visakhapatnam, India, when it was attacked in international waters. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed the strike, describing it as evidence of America’s global reach in its confrontation with Iran. The US Department of Defense also released black-and-white footage purportedly showing a submarine periscope view and a distant explosion. Hegseth called it the first sinking of an enemy warship by torpedo since World War II, framing it as a decisive military message.
