Trump Administration Offers 15-Point Ceasefire Plan To Iran: Explained

Various media organisations, including The New York Times, ABC News and The Wall Street Journal have reported that the US has sent Iran a 15-point ceasefire plan through intermediaries in Pakistan. The plan reportedly calls on Iran to dismantle its three main nuclear sites, end uranium enrichment, suspend its ballistic-missile programme, discontinue support for proxy groups, and fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz. In return, the US has reportedly promised to end internationally imposed nuclear-related sanctions on Iran and assist in monitoring its civil nuclear programme. The proposal also states that sanctions would not be reimposed under the “snapback” mechanism, which allows for their automatic reinstatement if Iran fails to comply. It is still unclear whether Israel has signed on to the proposal.
